DOM SMAZ est un photographe helvético-brésilien basé à Lausanne (Suisse), bien qu'il travaille souvent au Brésil. Six fois lauréat d?un Swiss Press Award, il collabore régulièrement depuis une dizaine d'années avec la presse nationale et internationale, notamment The Times, The Sunday Times, The Guardian, Internazionale, Die Zeit, Le Temps, Neue Zürcher Zeitung et Tages Anzeiger. Ses photographies abordent souvent les thèmes de l'héritage colonial, des différences sociales et de la marginalisation. En 2022, son premier livre Helvécia. Une histoire coloniale suisse au Brésil a été publié par Lars Müller Publishers, puis une exposition présentant ce travail sur Helvécia et son histoire, a pris place au Musée Ethnographique de Genève (MEG), et a été présenté a plus de 13'000 visiteurs. En 2023 son livre a fait partie des trois ouvrages shortlisted pour le prestigieux prix anglais Kraszna-Krausz Book Awards. Puis Smaz est récompensé à nouveau par le Swiss Press Photo pour son travail sur Helvécia, en remportant la 2ème place de la catégorie « Histoires Suisses ». Smaz a obtenu son diplôme de l'école de photographie de Vevey (Suisse) en 2012. De 2011 à 2014, Smaz a fait partie de l?agence photographique genevoise Rezo.ch aux côtés de Jean Revillard, Nicolas Righetti et Niels Ackerman. Depuis 2019, Il est membre de l'agence photographique française Hans Lucas.

DOM SMAZ is a Swiss-Brazilian photographer who is based in Lausanne (Switzerland), although he often works in Brazil. He won six Swiss Press Awards and for some ten years now has regularly contributed to both the national and international press, including The Times, The Sunday Times, The Guardian, Internazionale, Die Zeit, Le Temps, Neue Zürcher Zeitung and Tages Anzeiger. His photographs often deal with themes of colonial heritage, social differences and marginalization. In 2022, his first book Helvécia. A Swiss Colonial History in Brazil was published by Lars Müller Publishers, followed by an exhibition about Helvécia and its history at the Musée Ethnographique de Genève (MEG), attended by over 13,000 visitors. In 2023, his book was one of three shortlisted for the prestigious English Kraszna-Krausz Book Awards. Then Smaz was rewarded again by the Swiss Press Photo for his work about Helvécia, winning 2nd place in the "Swiss Stories" category. Smaz graduated from the Vevey School of Photography (Switzerland) in 2012. He is a member of the French photographic agency Hans Lucas. From 2011 to 2014, Smaz was part of the Geneva photographic agency Rezo.ch alongside Jean Revillard, Nicolas Righetti and Niels Ackerman. Since 2019, he has been a member of the French photographic agency Hans Lucas.
