Christian Moorman est né à San Francisco, aux États-Unis, en 1996.

Photographe Américano-Guyanais, il vit entre Paris et Guyana. Avant de se lancer dans la photographie, il a étudié la philosophie et le droit des droits de l'homme pendant huit ans au Royaume-Uni et en Autriche.

Il a commencé à photographier pendant la pandémie, et ses intérêts pour la politique, l'histoire et l'éthique l'ont orienté vers la photographie documentaire. Ces intérêts guident sa pratique et il s'intéresse particulièrement aux projets explorant des thèmes liés à l'héritage du colonialisme,

ainsi qu'aux expériences complexes des communautés diasporiques. Il s'engage à produire des oeuvres bien documentées et produites de manière éthique.

En 2024/25, il a étudié la photographie documentaire à Paris, dans le cadre d'un cursus dispensé par l'école de photographie Spéos et Magnum, et est actuellement photographe indépendant.

Christian travaille sur un projet à long terme documentant les transformations qui ont eu lieu en Guyane après la découverte de pétrole au large de ses côtes en 2015. En 2024 et 2025, il s'est concentré sur des chapitres qui explorent l'industrie sucrière du pays, dans laquelle son grand-père a travaillé pendant plus de deux décennies.

Christian Moorman was born in San Francisco, USA in 1996.

He is a Guyanese-American photographer based between Paris and Guyana. Prior to taking up photography, he spent 8 years studying philosophy and human rights law in the UK and Austria.

He began taking photographs during the pandemic, and his interests in politics, history, and ethics drew him to documentary photography. He allows these interests to guide his practice, and is especially interested in projects exploring themes related to the legacies of colonialism, as well as the complicated experiences of diasporic communities. He is committed to producing work that is well-researched and ethically produced.

In 2024/25, he studied documentary photography in Paris, as part of a course taught by Spéos Photography School and Magnum, and is currently a freelance photographer.

Christian is working on a long-term project documenting the transformations taking place in Guyana following the discovery of oil off its shores in 2015. In 2024 and 2025, he has focused on chapters that explore the country’s sugar industry, which his grandfather worked in for more than two decades.
