Guyana
Une serie de photographies prises en Guyane au cours des cinq dernieres annees. Depuis la decouverte d’importants gisements petroliers offshore en 2015, la Guyane est passee du statut de l’un des pays les plus pauvres des Ameriques a celui d’economie connaissant la croissance la plus rapide au monde. Malgre cela, la qualite de vie du Guyanais moyen n’a pas radicalement change, et les transformations de la vie quotidienne dans le pays s’operent plus lentement que certains ne l’avaient prevu.
Situe a l'extremite nord de l'Amerique du Sud, le Guyana est le seul pays anglophone du continent. Il entretient des liens culturels etroits avec les pays anglophones des Caraibes et presente une grande diversite ethnique. La population se compose de personnes d'origine indienne, africaine, chinoise, portugaise, britannique et autochtone sud-americaine. Bien que 90 % de la population du pays vive sur la cote, la grande majorite du territoire est recouverte par la dense foret amazonienne.
Guyana
A collection of photographs taken in Guyana over the past five years. Since the discovery of massive offshore oil reserves in 2015, Guyana has transitioned from being one of the poorest countries in the Americas to the fastest-growing economy in the world. Despite this, the quality of life of the average Guyanese citizen has not changed drastically, and changes to daily life in the country are coming more slowly than some expected.
Located on the northern tip of South America, Guyana is the only English-speaking country on the continent. It shares its closest cultural ties with countries in the Anglophone Caribbean, and is extremely ethnically diverse. The population consists of people of East Indian, African, Chinese, Portuguese, British, and indigenous South American ethnicity. Although 90% of the country’s population lives on the coast, the vast majority of the country is covered in the dense Amazon rainforest.
