Narciso Contreras est un photojournaliste documentariste primé, né à Mexico en 1975. Depuis 2010, il a couvert une variété de questions et de sujets en Asie du Sud, en Afrique du Nord, au Moyen-Orient, en Europe et au Mexique, ce qui l'a amené à concentrer son travail sur les conséquences humanitaires des conflits, l'économie et les guerres. Son travail vise à contribuer à la construction de notre mémoire visuelle du monde qu'il témoigne.
Ses études de philosophie, de photographie et d'anthropologie visuelle l'amènent à vivre et étudier dans un monastère en Inde tout en photographiant des communautés religieuses, de là l'espace entre politique et spiritualité devient l'axe de son regard.
Il a contribué à documenter des questions telles que la guerre ethnique au Myanmar, le conflit dans la bande de Gaza, les bouleversements politiques à Istanbul et le conflit tribal en Libye. Son travail a été reconnu internationalement pour avoir documenté la guerre en Syrie, le coup d'État militaire en Égypte, la guerre au Yémen ou encore la traite des êtres humains et d'esclavage des migrants en Libye en 2016.
Les photographies de Narciso ont été exposées dans des galeries, des musées et des festivals de photographie en Europe, en Asie, aux États-Unis et au Mexique. Son travail photographique de la guerre en Syrie fait partie de la collection du Musée de la guerre de Dubrovnik, et en 2017 son exposition photographique "Libye : un marché humain" à la galerie Saatchi à Londres, a été reconnue l'exposition de photojournalisme la plus visitée dans le monde et la troisième dans la catégorie photographie avec plus de 520.000 visiteurs.
Son travail a été récompensé par le Prix Pulitzer dans la catégorie des nouvelles de dernière heure, POYi (Images de l'année), le Prix Carmignac du photojournalisme et le Prix Lucas Dolega, en plus d'être deux fois finaliste du World Report Award, finaliste du FotoEvidence Book Award-World Press Photo Prize et le prix des correspondants de guerre du Bayeaux, entre autres.
Narciso enseigne et donne des cours, des ateliers et des conférences à l'UNAM, l'EAF, l'ITESM, l'Universidad Iberoamericana, l'Université de Princeton et le Frontline Club of London.
Narciso travaille actuellement sur des projets documentaires à long terme basés sur les concepts de "déplacement massif d'êtres humains", "migration environnementale", "trans-modernité, identité et décolonisation".

Narciso Contreras is an award-winning documentarian photojournalist born in Mexico City in 1975. Since 2010 he has been covering a variety of issues and topics in Southern Asia, North of Africa, Middle East, Europe and Mexico, leading him to focus his work on the humanitarian consequences of conflicts, economics and wars. His work intends to contribute building our visual memory of the world he testifies.
His studies in philosophy, photography and visual anthropology led him to live and study in a monastery in India while photographing religious communities, from there the space between politics and spirituality becomes the axis of his gaze. He assumes a multidisciplinary platform to elaborate a visual narrative combining techniques of social sciences, journalism and visual arts. Since then, he has contributed documenting issues like the ethnic war in Myanmar, the conflict in Gaza strip, the political upheavals in Istanbul and the tribal conflict in Libya. His work was recognized internationally for documenting the war in Syria, the military coup in Egypt, the war in Yemen, and for being the first to hand over to the
international community the proof in photographs of the network of human trafficking and slavery of migrants in Libya in 2016.
Narciso's photographs have been exhibited at galleries, museums and photo festivals in Europe, Asia, USA and Mexico. His photographic work of the war in Syria is part of the collection of the Museum of War of Dubrovnik, and in 2017 his photo exhibition "Libya: a human marketplace" at the Saatchi gallery in London, was recognized the most visited exhibition of photojournalism in the world and the third in the photography category with more than 520,000 visitors. His work has been awarded with the Pulitzer Prize in the breaking news category, POYi (Pictures of the Year), the Carmignac Photojournalism Award and the Lucas Dolega Prize, in addition to being twice a finalist of the World Report Award, finalist of the FotoEvidence Book Award-World Press Photo prize and the award for war correspondents of Bayeaux, among others.
Narciso has contributed to magazines, newspapers and publications worldwide such as TIME, New York Times, The Guardian, Paris Match, Newsweek, Foreign Policy, Washington Post, Der Spiegel, Sunday Times, Wall Street Journal, LEFT, Vogue, L?Espresso, Expressen, Knack, dS Standaard, Wirtschafts Woche, Internazionale, Die Zeit, Aftonbladet, Corriere della Sera, among others. He has contributed also for non-governmental organizations like MSF (Doctors Without Borders), UNHCR (the United Nations High Commission for Refugees), SOSMediterranee
and MOAS (Migrant Offshore Aid Station). He has collaborated with his photographs in the publication of books and calendars, and has published two books of his authorship: "Libya: a human marketplace" Skira 2016, and "Syria: a journal of pain" WarPhotoLimited 2014.
In addition to his photographic contribution, Narciso has taught diploma courses, workshops and conferences at the UNAM, the EAF, the ITESM, the Universidad Iberoamericana, the Princeton University and the Frontline Club of London, among others.
Narciso is currently working on long-term documentary projects based on the concepts of "massive human displacement", "environmental migration", "trans-modernity, identity and decolonizing turn".
