Matthieu Lunard
— Bio

Matthieu Lunard is a Paris-born photographer and visual storyteller whose first published reportage photographs appeared while working as a journalist for Le Courrier du Vietnam, following his Master’s degree in Chinese Language and Civilization and Political Science. Upon returning to Paris, he transitioned into the fashion industry, where he spent several years working notably as an assistant to renowned Japanese photographer Satoshi Saikusa.

His career then led him to China, where he collaborated with major international titles (Vogue China, L’Officiel China, Madame Figaro China) and produced major corporate and institutional campaigns. He subsequently settled in Thailand, where he co-founded ASERICA MAGAZINE (https://aserica.com/) The publication showcases the work of photographers from around the world, offering them international visibility centered on reportage, travel, portraiture, and photography at large.

This stage marked his firm pivot toward documentary reportage and dedicated work alongside numerous NGOs across Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. Notably, he collaborated with the NGO CBM to document the Rohingya refugee crisis in Bangladesh, and with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on a project covering Hmong urban refugees in Bangkok. Among his body of work on disenfranchised communities in the region, his feature on the Klong Toey slum in Bangkok was published in the prestigious New York-based magazine Osmos. Selected for the second time to the official UNICEF roster of photographers for Southeast Asia, he documents marginalized realities and access to fundamental human rights.

Now based in Cairo, Matthieu Lunard collaborates with CEOSS (Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services), documenting their field operations across Egypt to build powerful visual narratives on the realities of poverty and social development. His work highlights charitable initiatives conducted through synergies between Christian organizations and Muslim figures, reflecting interfaith dialogue in action. In parallel, he maintains strong ties to Asia, returning regularly for committed projects—such as his reportage in the summer of 2026 at the Thoo Mweh Khee Learning Center, the largest educational facility for Karen refugee children on the Thai-Myanmar border.
