Stefan Hertmans né à Gand en 1951, a publié plusieurs volumes de prose, d’essais et de poésie, puis a connu son premier succès international avec « Guerre et Térébenthine », sélectionné pour le Man Booker International Prize et traduit dans vingt-quatre langues. Il enseigne au Stedelijk Secundair Kunstinstituut Gent et à l'Académie royale des beaux-arts de Gand (Haute École de Gand). Il dirige en outre le Studium generale jusqu'en octobre 2010. Il a également donné des conférences à La Sorbonne et aux universités de Vienne, Berlin et Mexico, à la Bibliothèque du Congrès de Washington et à l'University College de Londres.

Stefan Hertmans, born in Ghent in 1951, has published several volumes of prose, essays and poetry, and achieved his first international success with « War and Turpentine », which was shortlisted for the Man Booker International Prize and translated into twenty-four languages. He teaches at the Stedelijk Secundair Kunstinstituut Gent and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent (Haute École de Gand). He also directed the Studium Generale until October 2010. He has given lectures at the Sorbonne and at universities in Vienna, Berlin and Mexico City, at the Library of Congress in Washington and at University College London.
