Medellin a été dans les années 90 une des villes les plus dangereuses du monde, c'est semble t'il ce qui a motivé Fernando Botero a y faire installer une partie de ses oeuvres en bronze, sur la place qui porte aujourd'hui son nom.
Il souhaitait que ses créations soient en accès libres et gratuits, dans les musées ou en plein air et tout le monde puisse en profiter, à commencer par les classes les plus défavorisées.
Aujourd'hui la ville s'est pacifiée, ses oeuvres colossales aux formes rondes et douces font partie du quotidien des Colombiens qui se les sont appropriées, n'hésitant pas à les toucher, à s'en amuser, ainsi que l'avait souhaité l'artiste.

In the 90s, Medellin was one of the most dangerous cities in the world, and this seems to have motivated Fernando Botero to have some of his bronze works installed in the square that today bears his name.
He wanted his creations to be freely accessible, in museums or in the open air, so that everyone could enjoy them, starting with the underprivileged.
Today, the city has been pacified, and his colossal works, with their soft, round shapes, are part of the daily lives of Colombians, who have made them their own, not hesitating to touch them and have fun with them, as the artist had wished.
