CAMINO FRANCES : PASSAGE DES PYRENEES ENTRE SAINT JEAN PIED DE PORT ET RONCEVAUX
Une fois parvenus à la Croix Thibault, au-dessus de Saint Jean Pied de Port, les pèlerins en route vers Saint Jacques de Compostelle quittent la petite route de montagne pour emprunter le sentier qui leur permettra de traverser la montagne, mais aussi la frontière franco-espagnole.
Le passage se fait quelques centaines de mètres avant la fontaine de Roland et le Col de Bentarte. Une large piste les emmène ensuite au Col de Lepoeder, à quelques 1.430m d'altitude, pour redescendre côté espagnol, vers Roncevaux et sa magnifique abbaye.
CAMINO FRANCES: PASSAGE THROUGH THE PYRENEES BETWEEN SAINT JEAN PIED DE PORT AND RONCEVALLES
Once they reach the Croix Thibault, above Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela leave the small mountain road to take the path that will take them through the mountains, as well as the French-Spanish border. The crossing is a few hundred meters before the Roland Fountain and the Col de Bentarte. A wide track then takes them to the Col de Lepoeder, at an altitude of some 1,430 meters, before descending back down the Spanish side toward Roncevaux and its magnificent abbey.
