It is within the framework of a long-term photographic campaign for the SNEF Group, an international company based in Marseille and specialized in electrical and climatic engineering, that I survey these buildings under construction that we call building sites. But not at any time. At this moment when, exposed, flayed, the space is waiting for a completion. Guts in the air. It is necessary to nourish it, to irrigate it, to feed it for its intended use before the veneer and the interior decoration conceal the organic nature of this work.
These places of paradox entirely shaped by the instrumentalized hand of man strangely do not include any visible presence, apart from the traces of a past occupation for the buildings awaiting renovation, the tools and objects very temporarily stored or left by the various trades or the deposit of dust which are so many testimonies of an activity in progress. Hospitals, office buildings, administrations, housing... there will be many of them tomorrow. We are in an urban environment, the tertiary sector has long since established its supremacy.
An expectation is an object intended to receive a complement, thus this love of cable, this sheath in projection or in its trench, these sections of pipes in the acid and slightly acrid dust of the fresh concrete. But these "waits" do not fail to convene the question of the duration. The wait, in these transitory spaces, it is also a suspension, a stop in the course of the time. In the manner of the photography of which we know that it does not raise of an ordinary time in its way of trapping the space.
It would be vain to want to identify these places. With the exception of a concern for reserve and discretion, these buildings are now completed, occupied, integrated into the relative continuum of the urban landscape. It was a moment of intimacy - gone.
