The Grand Est is one of the most contaminated regions of the country: mortality linked to covid-19 in the Vosges is among the highest in the region. 234 deaths were recorded there on 30 April 2020.
Since the beginning of this health crisis, the Vosges Civil Protection has been providing support in many areas. Its volunteers are notably acting as reinforcements in the department's EHPADs. They help the staff to cope with this unprecedented situation for which nobody was prepared.
At each death in the EHPAD, the volunteers of the Protection Civile des Vosges completely disinfect the resident's room. Each personal item is then scrupulously cleaned to be later returned to the family of the deceased. The furniture is also completely disinfected as well as the walls and floor of the room. The protocol takes place in two stages: a first complete disinfection which can last several hours, then, 24 hours later, the volunteers of the Civil Protection carry out a second complete disinfection of the room.
