Landes : La Chalosse au printemps
Evoquer les paysages des Landes, c’est automatiquement parler de ses routes rectilignes au milieu des forêts de pin, ses interminables plages de sable au bord de l’océan et ses champs de maïs plats qui rejoignent l’horizon. Pourtant coincé entre la vallée de l’Adour au nord et la vallée du Gave de Pau au sud qui traverse le pays Basque et le Bearn jusqu’au Pyrénées, se trouve un petit pays : La Chalosse. La Chalosse fait partie d’un vaste territoire agricole au sud des Landes, avec le Gosse-Seignanx, le Tursan et le Bas-Armagnac Landais. Ces unités, qui ont des similitudes mais se distinguent toutes, forment un ensemble par contraste avec la forêt landaise et le littoral.
Certains Chalossais au fort accent qui roule surnomme La Chalosse : « La Toscane gascogne » avec son relief creusé de vallons où coulent de nombreuses rivières au bord des bastides en pierre et au toit asymétrique. La Chalosse offre une terre généreuse pour les agriculteurs et les élevages. When you think of the landscapes of the Landes region, you automatically think of its straight roads through pine forests, its endless sandy beaches along the ocean and its flat cornfields stretching to the horizon. However, wedged between the Adour Valley to the north and the Gave de Pau Valley to the south, which crosses the Basque Country and Bearn to the Pyrenees, lies a small region: La Chalosse. La Chalosse is part of a vast agricultural area south of the Landes, along with Gosse-Seignanx, Tursan and Bas-Armagnac Landais. These areas, which have similarities but are all distinct, form a whole that contrasts with the Landes forest and the coastline.
Some Chalossais with strong rolling accents nickname La Chalosse ‘the Gascon Tuscany’ with its rolling hills dotted with numerous rivers flowing alongside stone bastides with asymmetrical roofs. La Chalosse offers fertile land for farmers and livestock breeders.
