Croagh Patrick pilgrimage
In 441 St. Patrick decided to climb the Croagh Patrick Mountain, located in Mayo, Ireland. When he reached the summit, he fasted for 40 days and built a small church.
It is a hostile mountain, 750 meters above the sea, in the shape of a volcano, very often suddenly invaded by mist and wind.
It frightened the inhabitants, so this act of bravery forced admiration and participated in the evangelization of Ireland.
Since then, every year, on the last Sunday in July, nearly 25,000 Irish people have been on Croagh Patrick's pilgrimage, some of them finishing the journey barefoot on the rocks. There are injured people, dangerous crossings, the slope is steep but it is a real collective experience.
