For their first collaboration, Christiane Jatahy and Wagner Moura have conceived a sequel to Henrik Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People. A Trial – After An Enemy of the People engages with the 150-year-old play through the lens of contemporary crises: environmental issues, the relationship between science and politics, and the interplay of power and truth in the age of fake news. When Dr. Thomas Stockmann discovers that the waters of his spa town are contaminated, he attempts to warn the authorities and the public, only to be publicly discredited and condemned, accused of jeopardizing the local economy. Through a trial, he returns to defend himself and seek redress. Blending video, testimony, and documentary-style writing, the production places the audience in the role of the jury, reaffirming theater as a living space for debate and democracy.

Pour leur première collaboration, Christiane Jatahy et Wagner Moura ont imaginé une suite à Un ennemi du peupled’Henrik Ibsen. Un procès – après l’ennemi du peuple dialogue avec cette pièce écrite il y a 150 ans à l’aune des urgences contemporaines – l’écologie, les rapports entre science et politique, entre pouvoir et vérité à l’heure des fake news. Quand le médecin Thomas Stockmann découvre que les eaux de sa ville thermale sont contaminées, il tente de prévenir les autorités et d’alerter la population, mais il est publiquement discrédité et condamné, accusé de mettre en péril l’économie locale. À travers son procès, il revient pour se défendre et demander réparation. Mêlant vidéo, témoignages et écriture documentaire, le spectacle place le public en position de jury et réaffirme le théâtre comme espace vivant de débat et de démocratie.
