Migration crisis in Briançon (Hautes-Alpes)
The winter is relatively mild at the end of January. The solidarity shelter sees between five and ten people arriving each night, mostly young men crossing the mountains through the Montgenèvre pass. During winter, the volunteers experience significantly fewer arrivals compared to the warmer months. They can catch a break from the overwhelming presence of three hundred people last summer, forcing them to temporarily close to catch their breath, reorganize, and decide on a new guideline, which is not to exceed the authorized number of people and limit their stay to a maximum of three days.
Here is my report on two days spent with the volunteers, from the Italian border to the Solidarity Terraces.
