Né à Shenyang un 1er septembre 1935, la carrière musicale de Seiji Ozawa a débuté en 1959 avec le premier prix du concours international de jeunes chefs d’orchestre de Besançon.
Il a été l'élève d’Herbert von Karajan à Berlin, l’assistant de Leonard Bernstein à New York, le directeur musical de l’Orchestre symphonique de Toronto de San Francisco et de Boston.
Il a été le fondateur du Nouvel Orchestre Philharmonique du Japon, de l'Orchestre International Saito Kinen et du Tokyo Opera Nomori. En France il dirigera souvent l’Orchestre National de France (ONF).

Born in Shenyang on September 1, 1935, Seiji Ozawa's musical career began in 1959 with first prize at the Besançon International Competition for Young Conductors.
He was Herbert von Karajan's pupil in Berlin, Leonard Bernstein's assistant in New York, and music director of the Toronto, San Francisco and Boston Symphony Orchestras.
He was founder of the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Saito Kinen International Orchestra and the Tokyo Opera Nomori. In France, he often conducts the Orchestre National de France (ONF).
