JULIEN CHUINE, FONDATEUR D'ALTERRENATIVE
Julien, young farmer on his farm in Genneville in the Pays d'Auge, Normandy
"More than a dream, a need": this is how Julien Chuine describes his radical change of life.
This thirty-something has indeed worked in different companies (construction, civil engineering, maritime ...), climbing the ladder in terms of responsibility, until the moment when he gave up everything to get into market gardening and create his association, Alterrenative.
"It was especially the management of humans that made me sick," he explains. The pressure I was under but also the pressure I was asked to put under, the unfounded authority or even the injustice, it was unbearable and so contrary to my convictions! So he left, sold his house and bought a one hectare piece of land in the Pays d'Auge. Since 2016, he has been growing old varieties of fruits and vegetables there, according to the principles of permaculture. "I learned everything on my own," he says. Contrary to what society or our education tends to lead us to believe, the solutions are simple to meet the growing need for a healthier and more humane way of life ". His association, which now has about fifty members, is not only dedicated to the promotion of natural agriculture, but is intended to be a laboratory of ideas and sharing: ?Many people come to see me, curious. and interested, with the same desire to opt for other models. It's great ! "
One of the people who inspired him was of course Pierre Rabhi, this peasant-philosopher, champion of agroecology and founder of the Hummingbird movement. With Alterrenative, Julien wants to bring out alternatives, as his name suggests, in areas other than agriculture, such as construction or education. It is for this reason that he chose the associative mode. ?Starting from nothing, we learn a lot! I do not regret my change of life for a second, and the meetings I make are the best proof ?.
