Éclipse au phare des Baleines
Le 12 août 2026, à Saint-Clément-des-Baleines, sur l’île de Ré, des centaines de personnes se sont rassemblées face à l’océan pour assister à l’éclipse solaire.
J’ai construit cette série autour du phare des Baleines, en cherchant notamment à aligner le monument avec le Soleil éclipsé. Elle raconte aussi l’atmosphère particulière de cette soirée : la foule réunie sur la plage, les silhouettes du phare dans les dernières lumières du jour et plusieurs apparitions inattendues dans le ciel.
Un hélicoptère Eurocopter SA 365N Dauphin 2 de la Marine nationale, portant le numéro 24, a notamment survolé le site. Cet appareil, numéro de série 6024, est historiquement lié à la flottille 35F et au détachement de La Rochelle–Île de Ré.
Et comme si cela ne suffisait pas, à 20 h 22, un North American T-6 Texan / Harvard est passé exactement devant la lanterne du phare, offrant une image particulièrement improbable.
Une soirée où le phare des Baleines s'est retrouvé au croisement de l’astronomie, de l’aviation et d’un immense rassemblement populaire.
Eclipse at the Lighthouse of the Whales
On August 12, 2026, at Saint-Clément-des-Baleines on Île de Ré, hundreds of people gathered along the Atlantic shore to watch the solar eclipse.
I built this series around the Lighthouse of the Whales, carefully aligning the landmark with the eclipsed Sun. The series also captures the unique atmosphere of the evening: the crowd gathered on the beach, the lighthouse silhouetted against the last light of day, and several unexpected appearances in the sky.
A French Navy Eurocopter SA 365N Dauphin 2, carrying the number 24, flew over the area. The aircraft, serial number 6024, has a long history with the French Navy's 35F flotilla and the La Rochelle–Île de Ré detachment.
And as if that were not enough, at 8:22 pm, a North American T-6 Texan / Harvard flew directly in front of the lighthouse lantern, creating an exceptionally unlikely image.
An evening in which the Lighthouse of the Whales became a meeting point between astronomy, aviation and a huge gathering of spectators.
