EVACUATION OF THE TUNNEL OF SHAME
Evacuation of 237 exiled people surviving under a tunnel located between the 19th arrondissement and the Pré St Gervais this Friday 10 December in Paris. Many vulnerable people, families, including children under the age of two, and unaccompanied minors had been surviving for more than a month and a half in the cold and rain in very difficult living conditions. This morning, all the families and minors were taken in charge in the Paris region while the single men were transferred to Bordeaux. A destination that was imposed on them if they wanted to benefit from shelter. I was with Haftom, a young man from Eritrea, when the bus to Bordeaux left. He has been in France for 3 years and survived in the Pré Saint Gervais tunnel for 2 months. As he watched the bus leave, he explained to me that he had a job and that he could not leave the Paris region for this reason. The associations, local residents and all the people who have mobilised on the ground are asking for dignified and permanent accommodation solutions, adapted to the administrative and social situations of each person.
