Paysages grecs après des incendies de forêt
Les sécheresses prolongées, les vagues de chaleur et les vents violents modifient les conditions climatiques et les paysages de la Méditerranée, une région qui se réchauffe 20 % plus vite que la moyenne mondiale. Ces conditions, que les scientifiques qualifient de « nouvelle réalité », favorisent de plus en plus les incendies de forêt. Située en Méditerranée orientale, l'un des points chauds de ce réchauffement accéléré, la Grèce, souvent présentée comme une destination estivale insouciante, se trouve en première ligne face au changement climatique.
New Reality est un projet à long terme qui examine le paysage européen à travers le prisme du changement climatique. Dans ce premier chapitre, il se concentre sur les conséquences des récents incendies de forêt en Grèce (2021-2024). Oscillant entre journalisme lent, poésie et préoccupations environnementales, les images documentent la manière dont le changement climatique s'inscrit dans le paysage grec. Elles reflètent également la désertification croissante liée à l'urgence climatique, ainsi que les décisions politiques qui façonnent sa prévention et sa gestion au niveau local.
Greek landscapes in the aftermath of wildfires
Prolonged droughts, heatwaves, and strong winds are reshaping the climate patterns and landscapes of the Mediterranean—a region warming 20% faster than the global average. These conditions, which scientists identify as a “new reality,” increasingly favor the occurrence of wildfires. Located in the Eastern Mediterranean, one of the hotspots of this accelerated warming, Greece—a country often portrayed as a carefree summer destination—stands on the frontline of climate change.
New Reality is a long-term project, that examines the European Landscape through the prism of climate change. In this first chapter it focuses on the aftermath of wildfires of recent wildfires in Greece (2021–2024). Moving between slow journalism, poetry and environmental concern, the pictures document how climate change inscribes in the greek landscape. They also reflect on the expanding desertification linked to the climate emergency, as well as on the political decisions shaping its prevention and management on a local level.
