Monty Alexander Trio - Kingston/Harlem
Monty Alexander est né il y a 80 ans à Kingston, Jamaïque, le jour J (D-Day), lorsque les Américains ont débarqué en France pour mettre fin à la Seconde Guerre mondiale. La famille émigre en Floride, où le jeune pianiste se lie d'amitié avec de grands noms du jazz tels que Ray Brown, Milt Jackson et Miles Davis, avec qui il partage une passion pour les combats de boxe. Monty Alexander devient célèbre pour ses spectacles en trio et ses rythmes caribéens, imprégnés de jazz et de blues, qui glissent parfois vers le reggae de Bob Marley, son compatriote et cadet d'un an. Le Monty Alexander Trio s'est produit au Cully Jazz Festival 2024 avec Luke Sellick (bass) et Jason Brown (drms).

Monty Alexander was born in Kingston, Jamaica, 80 years ago on D-Day, when the Americans landed in France to end World War II. The family emigrated to Florida, where the young pianist made friends with jazz greats such as Ray Brown, Milt Jackson and Miles Davis, with whom he shared a love of boxing matches. Monty Alexander became famous for his trio shows and his Caribbean rhythms, steeped in jazz and blues, which occasionally shifted to the reggae of Bob Marley, his compatriot and one year his junior. The Monty Alexander Trio performed at the Cully Jazz Festival 2024 with Luke Sellick (bass) and Jason Brown (drms).
