Le Rainbow Warrior à La Rochelle
Samedi et dimanche 3 et 4 août, les Rochelais ont eu la chance de pouvoir monter sur le Rainbow Warrior troisième du nom, vaisseau mythique de l'ONG Greenpeace. Dans le cadre de son expédition européenne United For Climate, le Rainbow Warrior a fait escale à La Rochelle les 3 et 4 août, et sera à Bordeaux les 10 et 11 août. 1500 personnes ont visité le bateau ce week end.
L'occasion pour les amateurs comme pour les initiés à la cause environnementale de visiter le bateau et de rencontrer les membres de l'équipage. Et pour Greenpeace, l'occasion de planter une graine dans l'esprit des gens, en les sensibilisant à l'urgence climatique actuelle. Qui sait, la graine prendra peut-être.
Le bateau a été conçu spécifiquement pour les campagnes de Greenpeace et fut inauguré le 14 octobre 2011 à Bremerhaven en Allemagne. Son équipage actuel est composé de 16 personnes de 12 nationalités différentes, ce qui en fait un projet international par nature. Mais ce sont ses dimensions qui impressionnent le plus : 57,92m de long sur 11,30m de maître-bau (largeur), pour un tirant d'air de 50,50m (hauteur du plus haut mât à partir de la ligne de flottaison). Et le joyau de la couronne, sa voilure de 1325 m2 répartie en 5 voiles sur les deux mâts lui permet de se passer du moteur, qui n'est utilisé que lors de manoeuvres, ou l'entrée dans un port.

On August 3rd and 4th, the coastal city of La Rochelle welcomed the Rainbow Warrior, the mythical vessel of the NGO Greenpeace. As part of its European United For Climate expedition, the Rainbow Warrior stops in La Rochelle on August 3rd and 4th, and in Bordeaux on August 10th and 11th.
This is an opportunity for amateurs and those who are convinced of the environment to visit the boat and meet the crew members. And for Greenpeace, the opportunity to plant a seed in people's minds, making them aware of the current climate emergency. Who knows, maybe the seed will catch on.
The boat was designed specifically for Greenpeace campaigns and was inaugurated on October 14th, 2011 in Bremerhaven, Germany. Its current crew is composed of 16 people of 12 different nationalities, which makes it an international project by nature. But its dimensions are the most impressive: 57.92m long and 11.30m wide, for an air draft of 50.50m (height of the highest mast from the flotation line). And the crown jewel, its 1325 square meter sail area divided into 5 sails on the two masts, allows it to sail most of the time without the engine, which is only used when manoeuvring or entering a port.
