Contestation à Bangkok sur fond de tensions frontalières avec le Cambodge
Des manifestants se sont réunis devant l’Ambassade Royale du Cambodge à Bangkok pour dénoncer l’usage présumé de mines antipersonnel récemment posées par les forces cambodgiennes le long de la frontière thaïlando-cambodgienne, notamment dans la région de Chong Bok, dans la province d’Ubon Ratchathani. Cette contestation fait suite à un incident survenu le 16 juillet, au cours duquel trois soldats thaïlandais ont été blessés, l’un d’entre eux grièvement, après avoir marché sur des mines lors d’une patrouille.
Les autorités thaïlandaises affirment que ces mines, découvertes à 100–150 mètres au-delà de la ligne de déploiement militaire cambodgienne, constituent une violation de la Convention d’Ottawa. Des unités de déminage ont été envoyées sur place, et une protestation officielle est en cours de préparation auprès des Nations Unies.
Organisée par le réseau étudiant patriotique thaïlandais, la manifestation s’est déroulée dans le calme, mais avec des slogans forts, des drapeaux thaïlandais brandis, et des pancartes accusant le Cambodge de violer le droit international.
Protest in Bangkok Amid Border Tensions with Cambodia
Protesters gathered outside the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Bangkok to denounce the alleged use of newly planted landmines by Cambodian forces along the Thai-Cambodian border, particularly in the Chong Bok area of Ubon Ratchathani Province. The demonstration was sparked by a July 16 incident in which Thai soldiers were injured, one seriously, after stepping on landmines during a routine patrol.
Thai authorities claim the mines, reportedly discovered 100–150 meters beyond Cambodia’s military deployment line, constitute a violation of the Ottawa Convention. The Royal Thai Army has since deployed demining units to the area and is preparing a formal protest to the United Nations.
Organized by the Thai Patriotic Student Network, the protest remained peaceful but was marked by strong nationalist rhetoric, with demonstrators waving Thai flags, holding signs accusing Cambodia of violating international law, and demanding accountability.
