Le 22 mars, à la surprise générale, une victoire historique a marqué la soirée du second tour des municipales à La Réunion : celle d'Alexis Chaussalet (LFI) au Tampon, qui a renversé une sorte de dynastie installée et quasiment ininterrompue depuis 1983 : les "TAK" (Thien-Ah-Koon), père puis fils. Patrice Thien-Ah-Koon, maire sortant et déchu dimanche, avait succédé à son père, André Thien-Ah-Koon, 85 ans, jugé inéligible pour 5 ans en 2024 pour prise illégale d'intérêts.
Après une désillusion de son camp (NFP) aux législatives en 2024, le nouveau maire de 32 ans, soutenu par la Présidente de Région Huguette Bello, assure désormais ses fonctions dans la 3ème plus grande commune de l'île (en superficie), pourtant connue comme indétrônable.
Ce dimanche 29 mars avait lieu la séance inaugurale du nouveau conseil municipal. Plus de 1500 personnes ont bravé les fortes pluies pour venir assister à l'investiture de leur nouveau maire.

On March 22, to everyone’s surprise, a historic victory marked the evening of the second round of municipal elections in Réunion: that of Alexis Chaussalet (LFI) in Le Tampon, who toppled a sort of dynasty that had been in place and virtually unbroken since 1983—the “TAK” (Thien-Ah-Koon) family, first the father and then the son. Patrice Thien-Ah-Koon, the outgoing mayor who was ousted on Sunday, had succeeded his father, André Thien-Ah-Koon, 85, who was deemed ineligible to run for five years starting in 2024 due to illegal conflict of interest.
Following a setback for his party (NFP) in the 2024 legislative elections, the new 32-year-old mayor, backed by Regional President Huguette Bello, now holds office in the island’s third-largest municipality (by area), a seat long considered unassailable.
This Sunday, March 29, the inaugural session of the new city council took place. More than 1,500 people braved the heavy rain to attend the inauguration of their new mayor.
