Eruption du Piton de la Fournaise : la RN2 bloquée
Le vendredi 13 février 2026, la deuxième éruption de l'année débutait. Un mois après, le vendredi 13 mars, la lave rendait inaccessible une partie de l'une des routes principales, au sud de l'île : la RN2, entre Sainte Rose et Saint Philippe. Tandis que les spectateurs ne peuvent s'empêcher de penser au sort des habitants des deux villes les plus proches (bien qu'en sécurité mais au quotidien bouleversé durant probablement plusieurs mois), on se réjouit déjà de la prochaine étape : quand la coulée arrivera-t-elle jusqu'à l'océan, comme en 2007 ?
Eruption of Piton de la Fournaise : Route 2 is blocked
On Friday, February 13, 2026, the second eruption of the year began. A month later, on Friday, March 13, lava cut off access to a section of one of the island’s main roads in the south: Route 2, between Sainte Rose and Saint Philippe. While onlookers can’t help but think about the fate of the residents of the two nearest towns (who, though safe, will likely see their daily lives disrupted for several months), people are already looking forward to the next stage: when will the lava flow reach the ocean, as it did in 2007 ?
