NOUVELLE-CALÉDONIE : UN MILLIER DE PÉLERINS PRÉSENTS POUR L'ASSOMPTION
L'Assomption est une croyance chrétienne selon laquelle la Vierge Marie, mère de Jésus, est « montée au ciel », au terme de sa vie terrestre. Dans l'Église catholique, l'Assomption est célébrée liturgiquement le 15 août et s'accompagne fréquemment de processions. En Nouvelle-Calédonie, les fidèles des églises et paroisses de Nouméa, Dumbéa et du Mont-Dore convergent en processions vers l'église Notre-Dame de l'Immaculée à la tribu de La Conception au Mont-Dore, afin de se recueillir sur l'autel de la Vierge Marie puis écouter la grande messe solennelle qui clôture cette jounée de célébrations.

The Assumption is a Christian belief that the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus, "ascended to heaven" at the end of her earthly life. In the Catholic Church, the Assumption is celebrated liturgically on August 15 and is frequently accompanied by processions. In New Caledonia, the faithful of the churches and parishes of Noumea, Dumbea and Mont-Dore converge in processions to the church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in the tribe of La Conception in Mont-Dore, in order to meditate on the altar of the Virgin Mary and then to listen to the solemn mass that closes this day of celebration.
