Niger - Boko Haram at the border
Before Boko Haram stepped up attacks in Niger, Diffa, in the east of the country, was a wealthy region known for fishing, livestock and pepper cultivation. Today, the inhabitants have lost their access to certain water points and to their land. The tens of thousands of displaced people are learning to cohabit with the locals. And, in Goudoumaria, the center for Boko Haram repentants is working to 'de-radicalize' the members of Boko Haram who have agreed to lay down their arms.
