PAULA BORN IN 432 PPM
Paula est née le 29 mai 2026 à Paris et vit actuellement sa troisième canicule. Elle pose avec ses parents Anaïs (née en 1987) et Julien (né en 1979) avec le taux de concentration en CO2 de leur année (le mois pour Paula) de naissance. Le marqueur scientifique du réchauffement climatique. Ses parents l'enveloppent de leur amour et d'une couverture de survie, symbole de la lutte citoyenne contre la chaleur des canicules. Ce que nous vivons est un traumatisme profond, une rupture qui nous offre un aperçu de ce qui pourrait être l'été le plus frais des bébés que nous accueillons.
Le projet photographique BORN IN…PPM de Mary-Lou Mauricio a pour vocation de démontrer l’accélération de la concentration en CO2 depuis la révolution industrielle. Les participant·es posent avec le taux de leur année de naissance en signe de mobilisation contre la combustion des énergies fossiles toujours plus grandissante malgré les alertes scientifiques et pour dénoncer l’injustice climatique.

Paula was born on 29 May 2026 in Paris and is currently experiencing her third heatwave. She is pictured with her parents, Anaïs (born in 1987) and Julien (born in 1979), alongside the CO₂ concentration level for the year (or month, in Paula’s case) of her birth – the scientific indicator of global warming.
Her parents wrap her in their love and a thermal blanket, a symbol of the public’s fight against the heat of heatwaves. What we are experiencing is a profound trauma, a rupture that offers us a glimpse of what might be the coolest summer for the babies we welcome.
Mary-Lou Mauricio’s photographic project BORN IN…PPM aims to demonstrate the acceleration in CO₂ concentrations since the Industrial Revolution. Participants pose with the concentration level corresponding to the year of their birth as a sign of mobilisation against the ever-increasing burning of fossil fuels, despite scientific warnings, and to denounce climate injustice.
