Guilhermina a quitté le Portugal pour vivre et travailler en France pendant plusieurs décennies. Couturière de profession, elle y a notamment confectionné des manteaux destinés aux pompiers. Comme de nombreux Portugais de sa génération, son parcours a été marqué par l’émigration, le travail à l’étranger et le maintien d’un lien constant avec son pays d’origine. Après sa vie en France, Guilhermina est revenue s’installer à Pinela, dans le district de Bragança et la région de Trás-os-Montes. Son retour au Portugal marque une nouvelle étape de son histoire personnelle. Elle retrouve son village, ses proches, les habitudes locales et une communauté à laquelle elle est restée attachée malgré les années passées à l’étranger. La série suit Guilhermina dans son environnement quotidien et montre les traces de son parcours migratoire. Son ancienne machine à coudre, utilisée pendant ses années de travail en France, l’accompagne toujours. Elle s’en sert désormais pour confectionner des costumes traditionnels de Caretos, transformant ainsi son savoir-faire professionnel en un moyen de participer à la vie culturelle de Pinela. Le carnaval constitue le fil conducteur du reportage. Guilhermina prépare les costumes, ajuste les tissus, fixe les cloches et se vêt d’une tenue qu’elle a elle-même réalisée. Elle rejoint ensuite les autres habitants dans les rues du village, accompagnée de sa famille et de participants de plusieurs générations. Les repas traditionnels, les rassemblements et la procession montrent la place retrouvée de Guilhermina au sein de la communauté. À travers son retour au Portugal, la série évoque l’expérience de l’immigration portugaise en France, la mémoire du travail, le retour au village et la transmission des traditions familiales et culturelles.

Guilhermina left Portugal to live and work in France for several decades. A professional seamstress, she notably made coats for firefighters. Like many Portuguese people of her generation, her life was shaped by emigration, work abroad and the preservation of a lasting connection with her country of origin. After her years in France, Guilhermina returned to settle in Pinela, in the district of Bragança and the Trás-os-Montes region. Her return to Portugal represents a new chapter in her personal story. She reconnects with her village, her relatives, local customs and a community to which she remained attached despite the years spent abroad. The series follows Guilhermina in her daily environment and documents the traces of her migration journey. Her old sewing machine, used during her working years in France, is still part of her life. She now uses it to make traditional Careto costumes, transforming her professional skills into a way of contributing to Pinela’s cultural life. The carnival provides the narrative framework for the report. Guilhermina prepares the costumes, adjusts the fabrics, attaches the bells and dresses in an outfit she made herself. She then joins other residents in the village streets, accompanied by her family and participants from several generations. Traditional meals, gatherings and the procession show Guilhermina’s renewed place within the community. Through her return to Portugal, the series explores Portuguese immigration to France, memories of work, the return to the home village and the transmission of family and cultural traditions.
