On a dit « temps calme! ».
L'Espérance, promise of life
I have known Sarah and Cyril for over 15 years. They were my monos in a vacation center in Haute-Loire, for years. I followed their love at first sight, their wedding, I received the first birth announcement of their son Timéo, and after years without being able to see each other again, we meet again for a report.
Sarah & Cyril created "L'espérance" in 2014. It is a real "place to live", between the foster family and the home. While the news is darkened by the health crisis, L'Espérance wears its name well. It symbolizes the little voice that assures us that nothing is ever lost. This place has something almost divine about it, and we understand why as soon as we enter the house.
Currently, Sarah & Cyril have 11 children under their responsibility. Their 5 children: Timéo, Manoë, Elouan then Vincent and Anaë: both adopted. Let's add to this group: Camillia 17 years old arrived 4 years ago and Ambre, Meryem and Océane, arrived last summer. Finally, Adam 9 years old arrived in 2019, and Keyna, 15 years old arrived since March. In addition to all of these children, L'Espérance also welcomes several children on a sequential basis, including Bérengère, a psychotic autistic child, and Diana, a multi-handicapped child.
Most of these children have been placed in care since they were children, forced to reinvent themselves and recreate relationships. To compensate for all this, the Chauvancies give them responsibility and prepare them for independence, since they will have to leave the house when they turn 18. Of course, some children do not stay until they reach the age of majority, they can go back to their family after a certain period of time, and a court decision. Sarah and Cyril make up for the psychological and emotional voids that can be created in these children and bring Love, Respect of the other, Education.
Anaé is the first to take me by the hand. She is 8 years old, has Down syndrome and was adopted by the Chauvancy family two years ago. I had everything to learn in her company. Shyly, she asks me if I want to see her room, then read some books, then take a picture of the cat. She introduced me to her brothers, her house, showed me the garden with the chickens and rabbits.
At the Chauvancy's, we don't make preferences. The words LOVE, WELFARE, SMILE are written in small detached letters all over the house, the walls are filled with photos up to the ceiling. Moments of life in a place of life.
The planning is timed. It is normal, with Aurélie (medical-psychological assistant who intervenes in the daily life of the young people) Chloé (housekeeper) and Fany (technician of social and family intervention), they are 16 to overflow of energy every day, in the same place. It's the vacations, and yet we don't let ourselves do nothing. At 10 am, some of them draw, others revise, others lift the front wheels of the bikes in the big garden. We look at the planning, whose turn is it to prepare food? Who's turn it is to wash the dishes? Today, it is barbecue for all the tribe!
After the meal, it is the hour of the calm time. We said "quiet time! ". We reframe if necessary.
Every day, there are new educational games, we try to innovate. Two groups compete and everyone plays, even the adults: Sarah in one group, Cyril in another. BREAK! Elouan has just made a slide along the beam of the stairs. A controlled slide with emergency braking using his feet. Everything is fine. And then here, if you fall, you get up again. The Chauvancies are careful, but they don't overprotect themselves.
Once you've used your brains, you can let off steam. It's time for a treasure hunt in the garden. "Bring back a chicken", "find a multicolored object", "take a picture with Meryl". They run around, it's a real slap of energy in the face. They are interested in everything, especially photography. The proof is there, I had my cameras stolen all day, I found one in the rabbit pen.
Thanks: To Sarah & Cyril Chauvancy, incredible parents, whose humanity equals their kindness of soul, since our first meeting.
To their precious daily helpers: Aurelie, Chloé and Fany
To Jehanne, who was there that day, an incredible volunteer childcare assistant.
To all the children of l'Espérance: you are all promised a bright future, your curiosity and your smiles will be your weapons in the face of life.
