Pau, 27 mars 2026 — Jérôme Marbot a été officiellement installé ce jeudi comme nouveau maire de Pau, succédant à François Bayrou, président du MoDem et ancien premier ministre, dont le bilan de douze années à la tête de la cité paloise n’a pas convaincu les électeurs lors du second tour des municipales .
Âgé de 49 ans, l’avocat socialiste a savouré cette consécration lors d’un discours empreint d’émotion, remerciant les habitants, les membres du conseil municipal et ses proches présents dans la salle . Élu conseiller municipal dès 2008 et ancien adjoint de Martine Lignières-Cassou (2008-2014), Jérôme Marbot avait déjà conduit une liste en 2020 avant de remporter cette fois la mairie .
Dans son allocution, il a rendu hommage à André Labarrère, figure emblématique dont la proximité avec les Paloises et les Palois avait, dit-il, fait naître chez lui « l’envie d’être maire de Pau ». Il a également salué Martine Lignières-Cassou, ancienne maire, présente pour l’investiture de son ancien adjoint, et a adressé quelques mots bienveillants pour son prédécesseur François Bayrou, absent de ce conseil d’installation suite à sa démission.
Cette passation de pouvoir marque aussi un tournant politique pour Pau : le Rassemblement national fait son entrée pour la première fois au conseil municipal avec quatre élus, dont Margaux Taillefer, tête de liste L’Espérance pour Pau.

Pau, March 27, 2026 — Jérôme Marbot was officially sworn in this Thursday as the new mayor of Pau, succeeding François Bayrou, president of the MoDem party and former prime minister. After twelve years in office, Bayrou’s record at the helm of the Béarn capital failed to convince voters in the second round of the municipal elections.
At 49, the socialist lawyer celebrated this milestone in an emotional speech, expressing gratitude to residents, members of the municipal council, and his close supporters in attendance. Elected to the city council in 2008 and formerly deputy mayor under Martine Lignières-Cassou (2008–2014), Jérôme Marbot had already led a ticket in 2020 before winning the mayor’s office this time around.
During his address, Marbot paid tribute to André Labarrère, the iconic former mayor whose closeness to the people of Pau, he said, first inspired his own “desire to serve as mayor.” He also acknowledged Martine Lignières-Cassou, present for the inauguration of her former deputy, and extended gracious words to his predecessor François Bayrou, who was absent from the installation ceremony following his resignation.
This handover of power marks a significant political shift for Pau: for the first time, the National Rally takes seats in the municipal council, securing four positions, including Margaux Taillefer, leader of the Hope for Pau slate.
