Open Rooms – A photographic diary of women battling cancer
In 2025 in France, it is estimated that around 190,000 women were diagnosed with cancer. Providing these women with a space to express themselves allows them to tell their stories in a different way: to open up, convey their emotions, and share what they are going through during these long, trying months, both physically and psychologically.
Ten volunteers were given a disposable camera with which they documented their daily lives over several months.
The choice of a film camera is significant: like the illness itself, it imposes a waiting period. By relinquishing control over the outcome, each photograph becomes an act of trust, allowing a spontaneous and sincere account to emerge.
From chemotherapy to meal trays and walks in the fresh air, here is what these women living with the disease have chosen to show us.
