Gaelle Paty tells about her brother in her bookshop in Marciac
Almost a year ago, on 16 October, Samuel Paty was murdered outside the school in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines), where he taught. His sister, Gaëlle Paty, agreed to meet "La Croix" in her bookshop in Marciac, in the Gers. Gaëlle Paty learned of her older brother's murder from the press, as did her entire family. She received an alert on her phone on 16 October 2020, informing her that a teacher had been brutally murdered in front of her school in the Yvelines. At first she thought it couldn't be him.
Almost a year later, she agreed to meet La Croix. This is the first time she has given an interview. On the phone, she said she wanted to tell us who Samuel was - his values, his convictions, his readings - without, however, revealing the intimacy of his family. So we started by talking about her brother's posthumous book, which has just been published by the Presses universitaires de Lyon. In front of his bookshop, it is placed between two books on ecology, Animal, by Cyril Dion, and the latest novel by Emmanuelle Salasc, Hors gel, one of his favourites of the fall.
