The Volvic springs, the Impluvium and the Chancet bottling plant
The streams around the Riom basin that are fed by the Impluvium (the rainwater infiltration zone that gives rise to Volvic's natural mineral water) are drying up year after year. The cause is thought to be the excessive amount of water taken by Danone.
Opponents and defenders are now clashing over whether to exploit or preserve the resource. In Auvergne, the water war has already begun.
