Les Spanghero : la fratrie de rugbymen audois
La fratrie Spanghero est unique en France. Elle a l’accent qui roule les R, des épaules à décorner les bœufs, des origines italiennes avec une identité profondément Lauragaise, et bien sûr : une carrière sportive plus que légendaire.
Ces frères mastodontes, originaires de Bram dans l'Aude, sont d'anciens joueurs de rugby. Laurent, Walter, Jean-Marie, Claude, Guy puis Gilbert ont également deux soeurs, Annie et Maryse.
Ces portraits ont été commandés début 2026 dans le cadre d'une exposition du Maître ébéniste Pierre Armengaud, créateur du ballon de rugby en bois, aux Essar[t]s de Bram.
The Spangheros: the rugby-playing brothers from the Aude
The Spanghero brothers are unique in France. They have an accent that rolls the R’s, shoulders broad enough to knock the wind out of an ox, Italian roots combined with a deeply rooted identity in the Lauragais region, and, of course, a sporting career that is nothing short of legendary.
These giant brothers, originally from Bram in the Aude, are former rugby players. Laurent, Walter, Jean-Marie, Claude, Guy and Gilbert also have two sisters, Annie and Maryse.
These portraits were commissioned in early 2026 as part of an exhibition by master cabinetmaker Pierre Armengaud, creator of the wooden rugby ball, at Les Essar[t]s in Bram.
