Selon la tradition, tous les garçons laotiens sont censés être ordonnés moines au moins une fois dans leur vie, généralement pour une durée de 3 mois après avoir terminé leurs études ou juste avant le mariage. Dans les faits, ce sont les parents qui choisissent s'ils vont envoyer leurs garçons à l'école ou au Monastère. Il n'y a donc pas d'âge pour devenir moine bouddhiste, mais la plupart débutent leur vie de moine entre 7 et 10 ans, jusqu'à 20 ans. En premier lieu, les jeunes moines apprennent à lire et à écrire le Tham, l'écriture laotienne traditionnelle dans laquelle furent retranscrits les textes religieux. Mais bien loin de l'image ascétique que nous pourrions nous faire des moines bouddhistes... n'oublions-pas que ce sont des ados comme les autres ! Même au monastère de Kuang Si, la 4G passe mieux qu'à Paris... alors après les prières, les réseaux sociaux !

According to the tradition, every Laotian boy is supposed to be ordered monk at least once in his life, generally for a duration of 3 months after he ended his studies or just before the marriage. In reality, it is the parents who choose if they will send their boys to the school or to the Monastery. There is thus no age to become a Buddhist monk, but most begin their monk's life between 7 and 10 years old, until 20 years old. First of all, the young monks learn to read and to write the Tham, the traditional Laotian writing in which were retranscribed the religious texts. But far from the ascetic image that we could imagine to Buddhist monks... let us not forget that they are teenagers as the others ! Even to the monastery of Kuang Si, the 4G is better than in Paris... then after the prayers, the social networks !
