La ministre de la Culture au cloître de Condom après l’incendie
L’incendie a détruit la toiture et les bureaux administratifs de l’aile ouest du cloître, endommageant gravement plusieurs milliers de livres anciens et d’archives, dont des documents historiques remontant au XVIe siècle.
Sur place, Catherine Pégard a rencontré et remercié les sapeurs-pompiers mobilisés durant la nuit du sinistre. Leur intervention a permis de préserver le reste du cloître, la cathédrale Saint-Pierre attenante et la sous-préfecture. Cette visite s’inscrivait dans un déplacement consacré au patrimoine et aux acteurs culturels du Gers.
France’s Culture Minister Visits Condom Cloister Following the Fire
The fire destroyed the roof and administrative offices in the cloister’s west wing, severely damaging thousands of rare books and archives, including historical documents dating back to the 16th century.
During her visit, Catherine Pégard met and thanked the firefighters who battled the blaze throughout the night. Their rapid intervention helped save the rest of the cloister, the adjoining Saint-Pierre Cathedral and the nearby sub-prefecture building. The visit was part of a wider tour highlighting cultural heritage and cultural organisations across the Gers department.
