Bitche Velorail and Draisy electric train project
France, Bitche, 2023-22-09.
Velorail on the old SNCF line in Bitche (Moselle).
The creation of the Train Touristique Sarreguemines Bitche T2SB is aimed at preserving the infrastructure of the historic railroad line from Sarreguemines to Bitche and conserving the railway heritage. It will also open up new horizons for the Bitche - Niederbronn line, as the influx of tourists will be one of the major assets if the line is reopened. The project to reopen the railway line from Sarreguemines to Bitche as a tourist operation has been in the pipeline for several years. Together with the project to develop the earthenware factory site into a tourist hub, the steam train will be the other asset needed to boost tourism in the Sarreguemines region. Sarreguemines station will be the link between the two projects. The Saarbahn tramway linking Saarbrücken in particular will enable the many German tourists to visit these sites or to take the steam train either to Woelfling station, where a shuttle bus will take them back to the archaeological site of Bliesbruck-Reinheim, or to continue the journey to the various tourist attractions in the Pays de Bitche.
