Fête des Rameaux: Sartène rentre dans la Semaine Sainte
À Sartène, en Corse-du-Sud, la fête des rameaux a réuni membres de confréries, religieux et habitants autour d’une tradition profondément ancrée, marquant l’entrée dans la Semaine sainte.
La cérémonie a débuté à l’église Santa Maria Assunta, d’où les membres de la confrérie Compagnia del Santissimo Sacramento sont partis en procession, portant bannières, croix et palmes tressées. Le cortège a ensuite traversé la ville jusqu’à la chapelle Saint-Sébastien, accompagné d’enfants et de fidèles tenant rameaux d’olivier et palmes.
Sur le parvis de la chapelle, une foule importante s’est rassemblée tandis que l’abbé Olivier Culioli procédait à la bénédiction des rameaux, rituel central de cette fête commémorant l’entrée du Christ à Jérusalem. La messe a ensuite été célébrée en plein air avec l’assistance de la confrérie.
À l’issue de la cérémonie, la procession est revenue vers l’église Santa Maria Assunta, où les fidèles ont poursuivi la liturgie. À l’intérieur, les rameaux ornaient l’autel tandis que les membres de la confrérie participaient à l’office, lisant des textes religieux et assistant le prêtre lors de la communion.
Cette célébration annuelle, entre liturgie, tradition et identité locale, demeure un moment fort de la vie religieuse à Sartène, rassemblant habitants et visiteurs.
Palm Sunday: Sartene enters Holy Week
In Sartene, in southern Corsica, Palm Sunday celebrations brought together confraternity members, clergy and residents in a deeply rooted religious tradition marking the beginning of Holy Week.
The ceremony began at Santa Maria Assunta church, where members of the confraternity Compagnia del Santissimo Sacramento prepared to depart in procession, carrying banners, crosses and intricately braided palm fronds. The procession then made its way through the town towards the Saint Sebastian chapel, accompanied by children and faithful holding olive branches and palms.
Upon arrival on the chapel forecourt, a large crowd gathered as Abbe Olivier Culioli led the blessing of the palm fronds, a central ritual of Palm Sunday symbolising the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. The priest, assisted by members of the confraternity, then celebrated Mass in front of the chapel.
Following the ceremony, the procession returned to Santa Maria Assunta church, where the faithful entered for the continuation of the liturgy. Inside, olive branches adorned the altar while members of the confraternity took part in the service, reading religious texts and assisting the priest during communion.
This annual celebration, blending liturgy, community and local identity, remains a key moment of religious life in Sartene, drawing residents and visitors alike.
