SPAIN - BIELSA CARNIVAL IN THE ARAGONESE PYRENEES.
The Bielsa Carnival is one of the most emblematic events in the Aragonese Pyrénées. For four days, symbolic characters animate the streets of the village in front of the public. The Onso (bear) and his trainer, the Tranga (half-man, half-beast) and the Madame are the main actors in the parades on Saturday and Sunday. But the festivities begin on Thursday with the fabrication and trial of Cornelio Zorilla, the presumed author of all the misfortunes that have befallen the village in the last year. He will be hanged from the window of the town hall during the Carnival and burned on Monday morning to mark the end of the festival and the start of a new year. This Carnival attracts a large audience every year, who do not hesitate to dress up (see the report dedicated to the street portraits).
