Visual artist and photographer Olga Stefatou presents Born in Gaza, a project created in collaboration with Yousef Shurrab, a young man from Gaza now living in exile in Cairo, Egypt. As the guest of honor for the Invisible Cities #7 festival—organized by NegPos, the Nîmes-based art and photography center—Stefatou attended the opening of her exhibition on October 16, 2026.
The event offered the artist an opportunity to express her delight at exhibiting in France and to reunite with Patrice Loubon, the artistic director of NegPos—a connection that dates back to 2015, when Stefatou received an award at the Fotolimo festival.
Born in Gaza serves as a psychological portrait of a Palestinian survivor who has endured extreme violence and now faces the complex challenge of navigating life in a new, demanding city: Cairo. As he transitions from adolescence into adulthood, Yousef explores his own identity and voice. Through this collaborative work, the creators seek to make sense of Yousef’s past and present, using his creativity to overcome grief, preserve his memories, reconnect with life, and envision a future.
