Hospital scenes
In the dialysis department with heavy treatment of the hospital of Chambéry there are 28 beds. Two sessions take place per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Two groups of patients appear, those dialysis patients on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and those dialysis patients on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. More than a hundred different patients each take up a bed for about four hours, three times a week, some of them for decades.
In rooms with four beds, each patient builds his or her own familiar space, surrounded by white sheets and walls. He finds his machine and his carers, sometimes friends, sometimes enemies, if the day is good or more difficult. The dialysis service is a public and sanitized space which, for three mornings or afternoons a week, becomes a place of intimacy.
I wanted to transcribe poetic moments of modesty and gentleness, highlighting the elements of the daily life of these patients.
