Far from the front line, the city nevertheless remains a regular target of the Russian army.
Despite the conflict, its nearly three million residents continue their daily lives in an appearance of normality. Luxury brands, fast-food chains and ride-hailing services coexist with a strong military presence and memorials paying tribute to soldiers killed in action.
This documentary series highlights the contrast between the apparent normality of everyday life and the reality of a country at war, ever-present in public spaces as well as in people’s minds.
