Résistance Maloya
Etinsel Maloya est un groupe réunionnais de huit musiciens mené par Jordan Perigone (« LAFRIKIN »). Leur musique mélange le maloya traditionnel et des sonorités modernes. Les textes parlent d’émotions, d’identité, de transmission et rendent hommage aux ancêtres ainsi qu’à la culture réunionnaise. Révélés par le titre Byin Arrivé, ils représentent une nouvelle génération du maloya réunionnais.
Le groupe évolue aussi dans un contexte local marqué par des débats autour de l’appropriation culturelle du maloya, certains artistes et militants dénonçant une perte de sens spirituel, historique et identitaire de cette musique héritée de l’esclavage et inscrite au patrimoine immatériel de l’UNESCO.

Etinsel Maloya is a Réunion Island group made up of eight musicians led by Jordan Perigone (“LAFRIKIN”). Their music blends traditional maloya with modern sounds. Their lyrics explore emotions, identity, and cultural transmission, while paying tribute to ancestors and Réunionese culture. Revealed through the hit song Byin Arrivé, they represent a new generation of maloya artists from Réunion Island.
The group also exists within a local context marked by debates around the cultural appropriation of maloya, with some artists and activists denouncing the loss of the spiritual, historical, and cultural meaning of this music, which originated from the history of slavery and is recognized as part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage.
