"We decided to shed light on police violence for the first demonstration since the deconfinement. [...]
We saw what happened at Ile Saint-Denis. The famous "bicots" who can't swim, it's engraved in the marble of this police force. That is what it means: October 17, 1961 is still in 2020.
There are the dead, the wounded, wounded in our dignity because we are "bicots", because we are "crouilles", because we are not equal in this matter."

[Interview by Taha Bouhafs for Là-bas si j'y suis]
May 11, 2020, deconfinement, Île Saint-Denis. The appointment was given at 6:30 p.m.
Nassed from the outset, the demonstrators were unable to deploy a human chain against police violence.
During the confinement, 8 people died as a result of police violence. Not counting the beatings and mutilations.
On the night of April 26th, a man wanting to flee a police checkpoint threw himself into the Seine. One of the policemen of the crew pronounced these words full of meaning: "A bicot cannot swim".
The french slang word "bicot" is a racist one and was used during the Algerian colonization to qualify Arab men.
How can we fail to understand the reference to the bloody week of October 17, 1961? (in a context of the Algerian Liberation war, the French police threw Algerian people into the Seine, hundreds of them died).
The man in question, a foreign national, lodged a complaint of physical and verbal abuse.
He was given an obligation to leave the French territory.
