Dans un atelier discret d’Istanbul, Bosphorus Cymbals perpétue un savoir-faire rare : la fabrication artisanale de cymbales entièrement faites à la main.
Fondée en 1996 par trois maîtres-artisans — Hasan Özdemir, Hasan Şeker et İbrahim Yakıcı — l’entreprise est née entre les murs d’anciens ateliers de la ville. Tous trois ont commencé enfants, chez Istanbul Cymbals, sans jamais quitter cet univers. Le métal est leur langue, le son leur obsession.
Deux fois par mois, le four s’allume. Cuivre et étain fondent à 1800°C. On découpe, on martèle, on affine. Chaque cymbale passe entre leurs mains, chaque série obéit à un toucher, un profil, une oreille. Certaines sont tournées (lathing), d’autres laissées brutes, selon la sonorité recherchée.
Environ 10 000 cymbales sortent chaque année de l’atelier. La majorité part à l’étranger — États-Unis, France, Allemagne. Mais leur cœur reste ici, forgé entre feu, gestes anciens, et silence concentré.

In a quiet Istanbul workshop, Bosphorus Cymbals continues to uphold a rare craft: the art of hand-making cymbals from start to finish.
Founded in 1996 by three master craftsmen — Hasan Özdemir, Hasan Şeker, and İbrahim Yakıcı — the company was born out of the city’s long cymbal-making tradition. All three began working as children at Istanbul Cymbals and never left that world. Metal is their language; sound, their obsession.
Twice a month, the furnace roars to life. Copper and tin melt at 1800°C. The material is cut, hammered, and refined. Each cymbal passes through their hands. Each series responds to touch, shape, and ear. Some are lathed, others left raw — depending on the desired tone.
Roughly 10,000 cymbals leave the workshop each year. Most are shipped abroad — to the United States, France, Germany. But their heart remains here, forged in fire, old gestures, and concentrated silence.
