Le ministère de l'Education nationale connaît deux périodes annuelles de forte tension : la rentrée scolaire et l'organisation du baccalaureat, qui demeure le diplome phare de la scolarité française malgré l'extension considérable du taux de réussite à l'examen et les critiques de plus en plus présentes sur la baisse du niveau observé chez les élèves qui l'obtiennent. Le ministre Edouard Geffray a décidé d'infléchir la tendance en demandant une sanction dans la notation pour cause de maitrise insuffisante de la langue française dans les copies. Pournle ministre, il ne saurait être question d'obtenir le diplome si l'on ne maitrise pas suffisamment l'orthographe et la grammaire.

The Ministry of National Education experiences two periods of intense pressure each year: the start of the school year and the organization of the baccalaureate exam, which remains the flagship diploma of French education despite the considerable increase in the exam pass rate and growing criticism of the declining academic standards of students who obtain it. Minister Edouard Geffray has decided to reverse this trend by implementing penalties in the grading system for insufficient mastery of the French language in student papers. According to the Minister, obtaining the diploma is out of the question without sufficient mastery of spelling and grammar.
