A significant portion of the Iranian diaspora supports the return to power in Iran of the Shah's son, who has been living in exile in the United States since 1979. He is seen as the guarantor of the country's future unity and, given the current situation, the only one capable of ensuring a smooth transition after the regime's fall, a transition the protesters are hoping for.
