Fatoumata Koita est une jeune femme de 28 ans, victime d'excision à 16 ans, Sa co-autrice, Layla Bah a été, elle, excisée à l'âge de 7 ans. Peu importe l'âge. Elles racontent dans ce livre "Cicatrices de – lames – l’âme : L’excision aujourd’hui, publié aux Éditions Balland en 2025, un traumatisme profond. Ensemble, elles prennent enfin le courage d'écrire ses souffrances, ses traumatismes et se battent contre cette pratique qu'elle considère contraire aux préceptes de sa religion, l'Islam.

Fatoumata Koita is a 28-year-old woman who was subjected to female genital mutilation at the age of 16. Her co-author, Layla Bah, underwent the procedure at the age of 7. Regardless of age, they recount their profound trauma in the book ‘Cicatrices de – lames – l’âme : L’excision aujourd’hui’ (Scars of Blades and Souls: Female Genital Mutilation Today), published by Éditions Balland in 2025. Together, they finally found the courage to write about their suffering and trauma and are fighting against this practice, which they consider contrary to the precepts of their religion, Islam.
