A condolence gathering is held for 53 members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) who were registered in the population registry of Van and died in clashes on various dates, at a reception hall in Van, Turkey, on August 24, 2026. The families of those who died and thousands of people attended the gathering, where photographs of the deceased were displayed. Murat Karayilan, a senior PKK figure, said that according to the organization’s records, 25,922 people died in clashes between 1976 and 2026, with the total reaching approximately 27,000 when those not included in the records are taken into account.
