Backed in particular by the Greens and the frontrunner in the polls, Laurence Ruffin was ultimately pipped at the post in the first round of the municipal elections in Grenoble by the city’s former mayor, Alain Carignon.
The runner-up to the outgoing Green mayor, Éric Piolle, finds herself in an awkward position against the former Les Républicains councillor, as her main rivals on the Left have qualified for the second round: Allan Brunon for La France Insoumise and Romain Genti for Place Publique.
